First Centre for e-Governance inaugurated at CGC, Landran
Aims at better, efficient governance in State

The prestigious project of Punjab Government for bringing E governance to people of the state was launched at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, Mohali today. The first Centre for e-Governance set up in the state was inaugurated by Dr Pramod Kumar, Chairman, Punjab Governance Reforms Commission, Sh Subodh C Agrawal, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Punjab and Sh R K Verma, Managing Director, Punjab Infotech were the guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Pramod Kumar said that e-governance is an issue carrying top priority with the Govt. of Punjab. But unfortunately, this could not be implemented here so far as effectively as in some other states of India. With this in view the Govt. has decided to involve students and leading educational institutes of the state in this project. A beginning in this direction is made by starting the first centre for e-governance at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran. Dr. Pramod Kumar added that e-governance will play a key role in providing efficient and transparent administration in the state. Not only cities, but each village of Punjab will also be covered under the network of this programme. He revealed that a report on administrative reforms has already been submitted and now it was for the govt. to implement it. Dr. Pramod Kumar further said that the technical institutes of Punjab possessing the necessary infrastructure and technical manpower and other facilities can make a significant contribution in this. The first centre for e-governance has been set up at CGC Landran to motivate the participation of other leading institutions. He said that the teachers and students of CGC will work together in this centre for the computerization of various departments of the state. Dr. Kumar stated that although country attained freedom 65 years ago, yet the basic essential services and facilities were yet to reach the common man. He said that the main objective of e-governance is to provide an efficient and transport administration and make govt. machinery more useful for the public.

Expressing his views on e-governance Sh. S.C. Agrawal, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Punjab informed that the govt. has earmarked Rs. 10 crore for implementing the recommendations of the Administration Reforms commission. He stated that at district levels, Suvidha centres have already been opened and the govt. is committed to provide this facility to each village of the state with in next 2-3 years. Appreciating the initiative taken by CGC, he said that with this while computerization will bring efficiency and speedy working of Govt. dept., the students will also get opportunities to work on live projects.

S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC, Landran & Gharuan and S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC expressed their being elated over setting up the first centre for e-governance at CGC as a joint venture of CGC and Punjab Infotech under which the project on computerization of jails has already been completed. They stated that the centre will work on “No profit No loss” basis and will be run with the help of experienced and talented faculty of CGC. Dr. G.D. Bansal, Director General termed it as a ret letter day for CGC which will add a golden chapter in its history. Sh. R.K. Verma, I.A.S, Managing Director, Punjab Infotech, Sh. P.S. Mand, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, Sh. R.P.S. Walia, SDM, Mohali and Sh. Sarabjeet Singh, S.P. Mohali were also present on the occasion and they congratulated the management of CGC for visionary and progressive attitude.

Teacher’s Day was celebrated at CBS seminar hall on 5th Sep.

Teachers day was celebrated on 05 Sep2009 at the CBS seminar hall Chairman S. Satnam Singh Sandhu and President S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal were the chief guests on this occasion. Regional Manager from Reliance Mutual Fund was the guest of honour. In his address, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu highlighted the role of teachers in ethical and moral building of the students.

Dr. Neena Sawhney, Principal of college of Education gave an effective presentation on the importance of Teacher’s Day and its connection with Dr. Radhakrishnan in whose memory it is celebrated.

The session “MAC OS Overview” was conducted on 28th Aug, 09

The session “MAC OS Overview” was conducted on 28th Aug, 09 in the Conference Hall, Block-I by Mr. Vijay Malhan. Mr. Malhan, Sr. Software Engineer in core Research team in Quark’s enterprises. He is involved in design, development, integration & management of large S/W system involving different applications development technologies & multiple platforms. In this session, he briefed us on MAC OS, its history and Architecture of MAC. He also compare the MAC OS with ongoing Windows. He aware the students about the upcoming language i.e. Objective C and other languages that are used in MAC OS. There were around 130 students and Faculty Members of CSE, IT and MCA deptt. . The students showed keen interest in this session. It was around 120 minute’s sessions and 30 min was Question-Answer round. Students asked many questions and upgraded their knowledge about MAC. Practical session on MAC OS will be held soon. The students gained a lot about the latest technology from this session.

S. S. SANDHU RECEIVES AIMA-CMA 09 EDUCATION AWARD

Recognizing the efforts made in the field of education and providing placement opportunities to the students of northern region, All India Managements Association- Chandigarh Management Association has awarded Chairman Chandigarh Group of Colleges, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu with a special achievement award. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Govt. of India presented the award to Satnam Singh Sandhu during the ceremony at Central Hotel Management Institute. Among the special dignitaries present during this award ceremony included Col. Karamjeet Singh, President, , Dr. Gulshan Sharma, Vice President, Dr. J.N. Vohra, Secretary General, Chandigarh Management Association, S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC, I.P. Paul, Director Drissh Shoes.

Taking a giant leap in field of academic, sports and placements Chandigarh Grop of Colleges establish during the year 2001 by the visionaries Satnam singh Sandhu and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, the group has proved its mettle in the field of education all over the country. Thronging light on the achievements of CGC, Sandhu said that with a strength of just 100 students during its maiden year the group has risen from strength to strength and today it has reached a new milestone by touching the current students strength to 7000. Speaking on the occasion Sandhu added that National Board of Accreditation recognizing the sincere efforts of CGC has awarded five years accreditation certifying the quality education being imparted to the students. With this reorganization, CGC has been able to enmark itself amongst the top 100 academic institutions of the country. The group has proved itself as a “Hub of Placements” in the region as it has provided placement opportunities to more than 30000 students.

Speaking on the occasion Union Cabinet Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal said that with the contribution of institutes like CGC towards imparting quality education amongst the students, Chandigarh has acclaimed itself as the “Land of Education” and the international arena. Bansal further added that providing a national level Management institute in the city beautiful is at the top priority for which he is making efforts and assure to realize this dream sooner.

New Gymnasium Inaugurated

The newly constructed Gymnasium for C-4 boys hostel (Sadbhavna), was inaugurated by Honorable President Sir, on August 25,2009. The new gym has been fully equipped with high tech machines such as shoulder press, Pec- deck, Smith machine, Lat Pull Down,Seated rowing, Ab Crunch Pro and Olympic Weightlifting Sets(2).

Catering completely to the needs of the resident students, the college now has three gyms in various hostels(girls as well as boys), all of which are equipped with modern training and exercising equipments.

Workshop on "TEAM BUILDING AND LEADERSHIP"

Chandigarh Group of Colleges organized Workshop on "TEAM BUILDING AND LEADERSHIP" on 6th August 2009. It was conducted by Mr. Sofi Zahoor, director-HR, Quark.

All the Directors, Principals and Heads of departments of different colleges participated in the workshop.

The Workshop consisted of three sessions. In the first session, the participants were asked to introduce themselves and tell something about their personality which was not known to others.

In the 2nd session the participants were asked to tell about good qualities of any two persons from the participants or from the organization.

In the 3rd session the participants were divided into four groups namely Prahar, Daksh, Himalaya and Know Thy Self (KTS). And they were asked to describe the CGC story by making a Collage with photographs cut out from different magazines.  KTS team was adjudged the best by Mr. Sofi Zahoor.

In the end Mr. Sofi Zahoor made a power point presentation on Geese and their flying formations bringing out useful lessons on tem work, leadership, camaraderie and group dynamics.

The workshop was very helpful in bringing the participants closer as a team and everybody felt that we should have more sessions like this in the near future


4.44 lakh annual package offered to 22 CGC students by Federal Bank.

Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran has achieved yet another milestone when the Federal Bank selected 22 of its students during a placement drive in which 100 eligible students participated. CGC has become the 1st Educational Group in Northern region ever visited by the Federal Bank to conduct their recruitment process. Final year students of Engineering, MBA & MCA disciplines were eligible for the recruitment of Probationary Officers for the bank.  

Those selected have been offered a whopping annual package of Rs.4.44 Lacs. The students underwent a rigorous selection process which consisted of written test, Group Discussion followed by Preliminary and final rounds of Personal Interviews. A team of experts conducted the whole recruitment process which saw testing of both analytical as well as reasoning skills of the students. 

 

Bank of America recruitment drive at CBS Landran

Bank of America in a recruitment drive held for the students of Chandigarh Business School at Landran recruited 12 students. The process of recruitment included Presentation, Interview , Group Discussion and a  written Test. 
The  officials introducing the company to the students said that the Bank of America’s Asian network spans the region, with more than 2,000 professionals offering a comprehensive range of products and services. He further added that Bank of America and its affiliates primarily serve multinational corporations with business interests in Asia, financial institutions, large local businesses and government agencies.

 

25 B.Ed. students of CCE, Landran got selected as Teachers

25 B.Ed. students of Chandigarh College of Education, Landran finds placements in a trendsetter drive organized by the college. Some of these selected students have got opportunity to work as teacher in Government Schools while others have been placed in noted private schools in and around Chandigarh.

Some of the prominent schools where the students of CCE, Landran have been placed in Doon International Public School, Army Public School, Gyan Jyoti, Guru Harkrishan Public and St. Solider Public School.

Accenture picks 350 during campus recruitment drive.

Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services & outsourcing company established in 1989 primarily as a technology consultant and systems integrator. It has offices and operations in more than 150 cities in 49 countries across the world. CEC organised a Joint Campus for 2008 batch B.Tech and MCA students where over 350 students are selected as Software Engineers with the package more than 3 lacs.

 

HCL selects 101 from CEC Landran

In a joint recruitment drive held at CEC Landran by HCL Technologies, 101 students found employment. HCL Technologies, a multi national software corporation having offices all over the world. These students passing out in 2007-08 would be getting a pay of Rs. 3 Lacs p.a.

 

MPHASIS Selects 40 Students

40 students were selected in a joint campus placement drive for 2008 batch B.Tech (CSE, E&C, E&E,IT,E&T) ,MCA ,MCM, M.Sc. (CS, Maths or Physics) students by MPHASIS, an EDS company at Chandigarh Engineering College ,Landran (CEC).

 

Tata Elxsi Impressed by CEC Campus and Students
Tata Elxsi, selected 20 Engineering students of ECE and CSE disciplines for the posts of Trainee Software Engineers in a joint placement drive held at Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran. The selected students were offered a salary package of 2.4 lacs per annum.

 

Tech Mahindra recruits 29 students

Tech Mahindra is the 2nd largest Telecom software provider in India. Tech Mahindra conducted recruitment drive for BCA/BSc. students of 2008 batch at the campus of Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran.

 

Satyam Creates History at CEC

Satyam Computers-a top ranking software company of India created history of sorts when 550 B.Tech & MCA students of 2009 batch were selected in a single placement drive. The interview process included Written Tests, Group Discussions, Technical & Personal Interviews conducted by a team of experts from the company.

 

Saint Gobain offers Rs.3.24 lac package

Saint-Gobain, one of the largest industrial companies in the world in a joint placement drive at Chandigarh Engineering College selected 8 students on an annual package of Rs. 3.24 lacs. The drive was conducted for the students of 2009 batch.

 

International Tie-ups with University of Sunderland.

The management of CGC has broadened the spectrum of its International Tie-ups by signing a MoU with University of Sunderland which has created opportunities for the BBA and PGDM students to pursue their higher education in the University of Sunderland.

 

Indian Air force conducted fast track selection for flying and metrological branches on 22nd and 23rd March 2009 at CGCLandran, Mohali. 

The drive was attended by more than 675 candidates from all over Punjab and neighboring states. 119 candidates were short listed by the team of experts from the Indian Air force for flying duties while 20 candidates were short listed for metrological branch. All the short listed candidates have been handed over letters to report for SSB Interview at No. 1 Air force Selection Board, Dehradun. CBS wishes good luck to all the successful candidates.

Keeping its legacy to provide “Placements for All” Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran celebrated 4th march 2009 as “Placement Day2009”. Nirula’s Sign a MOU with CCH on 16th May 2008

On 16th May 2008 Chandigarh College of Hospitality and Nirula’s a big name in hotels and Quick Service Restaurants national Chain signed a MOU paving the way for the placement of students of CCH in their hotels and restaurants. 
Mr Khanna the Vice President of Nirula’s while addressing the students of CCH stated that Quick Service Restaurants is a sunshine field in hospitality industry with a lot of promise for those wanting to build careers in this industry.  He also revealed that 33 more restaurants are going to be added to the present tally of 58 existing ones during the current year by Nirula’s.

 

Lecture on Cross-Cultural Management was held on Wednesday, the 14th May, 2008.

Mr. Paul Brothe, Managing Director of the U.S based multinational giant Quark India, visited the Chandigarh Group of Colleges on Wednesday, the 14th May to deliver lecture on Cross-Cultural Management with special reference to Mergers & Acquisitions to the students of Chandigarh Business School. Mr.Sofi Zahoor, Director – HR, Quark India accompanied the visiting dignitary. Mr. S.S. Sandhu, Chairman and Mr. A.C. Sharma, Director-HRD of the Chandigarh Group of Colleges extended a hearty welcome to Mr. Brothe.

Delivering his lecture Mr. Brothe said that Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) is the key to growth in the present era of globalization, for the corporates, countries and even economies. He cited the examples of corporates from around the world such as, Tatas, Microsoft, Cisco etc. to make his point. Notwithstanding 60 per cent of the cases turning out to be  failures in Mergers and Acquisitions, it does not undermine its importance. Mr. Brothe cited language, organizational structure and technology as some of the problems that need to be tackled for smooth M&As. His lecture was followed by a question- answer session in which Mr. Broth along with Mr. Zahoor answered the enthusiastic queries from the students and the faculty members. Dr. G.D. Bansal, the Director-General of Chandigarh Group of Colleges thanked the visiting dignitaries for the informative and thought provoking lecture and for visiting the institute.

The students of ECE 6th Semester bid adieu to the final year students at hotel Parkview on 29th April, 2008. The joyous occasion started by welcoming of the passing out batch. Various games and dance activities were held for the students along with the compliments and titles conferred on them. Mr. Mansimranjit Singh and Miss. Preetinder kaur were crowned as Mr and Miss Electronics.

 

An Electronics club ‘RADIANCE-To glow’ was inaugurated by the chairman, Mr. Satnam Singh Sandhu and the Director General , Dr G.D. Bansal in the ECE Deptt. On 24 April,2008.

The club aims at organizing several programmes like Quiz Contests, General Knowledge  discussions, competitions based on skill etc by the student of ECE Department so as to enhance their communication skills, organization  capabilities and prepare them for better placements in this competitive world

            Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman appreciated the  initiated taken by the students to start this club and also announced a grant of Rs. 10,000/- for promoting the activities of the club.

Industry- Academics Interaction is the need of hour, says Chief Minister Badal

 

There is an urgent need to create a strong interaction between Industry and academicians for preparing specific curriculum based on the needs of Industry so that the students can be made employable. In Punjab, there has been a significant growth in the sector of education and now there is more need to focus on the development of technical & professional education. These were the expressions of Hon’ble Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal. S. Badal was addressing the students and staff on the occasion of Placement Day at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran.


The Chief Minister handed over the offer letters to students who were selected by companies like Satyam, LT& T, Infosys etc during their Recruitment Drives at CGC Campus. He further added that basic standard of primary education needs to be raised in villages and free education should be given to economically backward students. For this purpose in every block one Adarsh School is to be opened by his government in coming years which will give free quality education to the students. Eduaction in India is quite costly and there must be some planning for downtrodden people for that his government is in touch with center govt. Congratulating the students, Chief Minister said that they are lucky to be at the Institution like CGC which is putting in exceptional efforts for the employment of the students.


Giving information about the efforts put by the college to make this Placement Day successful Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman & Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President said that during last year 53 national and international companies have visited CGC campus for the recruitment. Their college is working towards not only the placement of their students but the placement of the students of other colleges of Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Himachal. As many as 40000 students of the region have appeared in the joint placement drives and thousands of them have been placed in reputed companies with the annual package of as much as 3 lakhs per annum.


Feeling overwhelmed on the achievement made by the students of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Dr G.D Bansal, Director-General said that some of the students of their college like Aashish Paul, Alok Singh,  Parmesh Grover, Joya Bansal, Abhishek Sharma  Arun Sood and many more have received offer letter from 3-4 companies altogether. He said that CGC has lived up to its aim of offering job letters to the students much before they get their degrees.


On this occasion, a live performance by Amrinder Gill noted Punjabi singer was given and some of the staff members were honoured by Chief Minister for their excellent services and achievements.

 

 CBS students won the prizes in 10 events in the management fest held at Chaitkara Business School “Bizcoons-08”.

Continent consisting of 23 students of Chandigarh Business School participated in the management fest held at chaitkara business school.  14 management colleges from Punjab and Union Territory participated in this event. CBS participated in 12 events and won the prizes in 10 events. 1st position has been secured in 3 events, 2nd position in 6 events and 3rd position in 1 event.

Fast Track Selection Drive of Indian Air Force Concluded Successfully

In the Fast Track Selection Drive of Indian Air Force, held at CEC, Landran, students of various engineering colleges of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh showed overwhelming response. As many as 1024 students of B.Tech and 69 students of MCA & PG from various engineering colleges got themselves registered for this mega drive.

For the B.Tech students , in the first round total 505 students were short listed. Out of these 505 students, 466 turned up for the second round. Finally 127 students were given call letters for appearing before the SSB.

In the 23 short listed students of MCA , 5 were found ineligible. Out of total 18 students 9 were given the call letter for appearing before the SSB.

 

Sonalika International Tractors Limited & HDFC Bank conducted interviews at Chandigarh Group of colleges, Landran.

As many as 52 students holding B-Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering with 60 percent aggregate scores were eligible for the selection process of Sonalika International. The recruitment process included pre-placement talk, group discussion and personal interview.

 Dr, Gurwinder Singh, assistant manager, HR informed that those selected would be paid Rs. 15,000 per month after completion of training period of one year. During training the trainee engineers would be given Rs. 10,000 per month as remuneration. Mean while, a team of officials from HDFC bank also conducted personal interviews of 28 MBA students.

 College director Dr. SPS Bedi said a number of students, due to pass this year, have already been recruited by companies like Standard Chartered Bank, ICICI, Karvy and Sterling.

51 students from ECE and Mechanical Engineering were selected by Sterling Telecom & Net Limited Chennai. This is the first company who introduced internet in India. This company is planning to work for Tata company for producing Mobile Communication Towers.

Three day placement drive at CEC concludes

The three day state-level job fest at Chandigarh Engineering College (CEC), Landran, concluded on 13 Nov, 2006 with foreign-based recruitment agency G-4 Solutions selecting over 126 students from across the state. These students would be given jobs by nine different companies including Hexaware and GTL. In all over 1100 students from 36 colleges affiliated to PTU, GNDU, PU and University of Engineering and Technology.

CEC student Ravinder Mehta has got placement with American Company Emissive Energy Corporation with a salary package of Rs 14 Lacs per annum. This is the highest salary package ever given to a student of private college in the region.
